CHL takes place in Vienna, Sharks secure Playoff spot

Vienna Capitals beat KHL Medvescak Zagreb on Friday and will finish first after part 1 of the regular season. Besides the Champion qualified for the Champions Hockey League season 2018/19. HC TWK Innsbruck „Die Haie“ were successful in their home-game against EC-KAC and qualified for the Playoffs. EC VSV, HC Orli Znojmo and Moser Medical Graz99ers celebrated wins as well.

99ers won high-scoring game at Dornbirn in Overtime
Dornbirn Bulldogs and Moser Medical Graz99ers were on Fire. Matt Frasers power play goal gave the „Vorarlberger“ a quick lead. The Bulldogs were the chiefs on the ice now, but Graz scored next: Brock Higgs (9.) poked the puck in. After the re-start the Styrians were on Fire. Ken Ograjensek (23.), Kurtis McLean (26.) and Daniel Oberkofler (26.) gave their team a 4:1-lead. The west-club did not give up: Chris D’Alvise (31./pp1) and Scott Timmins reduced the score. The game went up and down now. Finally the 99ers were successful: Peter Weihager netted the 5:3 in a Power Play. The Bulldogs had a late answer: Brodie Reid with a shot from the distance and a power play goal from Jamie Arniel sent the game into an Overtime. In the Overtime Anthony Camara decided the game for the Moser Medical Graz99ers in the very last seconds.
 
Eagles stopped Linz
David Kickert stopped the Black Wings from scoring early in the game. Villach took the lead with their first chance: Kyle Beach skated along the board, outplayed a defenseman with a deke and scored with a big shot. Quickly the „Eagles“ became dangerous again, but Miha Verlic missed his break-way. The Upper Austrians on the other side could not beat David Kickert in period 1. After the re-start the game started slowly. Then the Eagles hit the post. This was a wake up call for the Carinthians, Ryan Glenn netted the 2:0 with the next attack. Kevin Moderer answered with the 1:2 after a nice attack. The Eagles tried to decide the game early in the third period: After good chances from Flick and Benjamin Petrik, Captain Niki Petrik netted the 3:1. Linz tried to come back, but Glenn added the 4:1 into the empty net.
 
Caps defeated Bears
The Vienna Capitals had the upper hand in the game. Riley Holzapfel hit the post already in minute 2, Captain Andreas Nödl and Taylor Vause (after a solo) missed good chances as well. The goal was scored then by Medvescak: Tomas Netik finished a nice combination from the slot in minute 23. The Austrians had an answer: Aaron Brocklehurst with a blueliner and Nödl after a great diagonal-pass from Rafael Rotter turned the game. In period 3 the Caps were the chiefs on the ice too and earned a 2:1-win. Vienna will finish First after the first part of the regular season and successfully qualified for the Champions Hockey League season 2018/19.
 
Sharks beat Klagenfurt and qualified for the Playoffs
Klagenfurt started better into the game, but Innsbruck scored first: Hunter Bishop netted the 1:0 after a counter-attack. The Sharks got the momentum and continued to make pressure. But now the goal was scored by EC-KAC, Andrew Kozek equalized after a counter attack. The game went up and down now: Late in the first period Andrew Yogan finished a similar action for the 2:1. In period 2 the goalies were not to beat. Rene Swette stopped Ganahl, Richter, while Lammers, Hunter Bishop and Andrew Clark coud not beat David Madlener. Period 3 started perfect for Innsbruck: Hunter Bishop extended the lead with a backhand-goal after just 21 seconds. The Sharks controlled the game and even added the 4:1. With this success the Sharks successfully qualified for the Playoffs as well.
 
Znojmo surprised Bozen
Just two minutes in the game Bolzano scored the first goal: After a shot from Charles Gartner the puck was deflected by Andre Lakos stick and went between the pads of Schwarz into the net. Both teams then had some chances, but neither could score due to well playing defenses. After the re-start the Foxes agaisn started better. Angelidis had a serious chance to score, but his multiple shots ended on Schwarz. In minute 28 Bozen finally got their second goal by Michael Halmo. The forward performed a great breakaway and gave Schwarz no chance to make a save. Znojmo did not give up. After a while the home team scored their first goal by Tomas Plihal, who aimed exactly from a slot. And just moments later Josef Zajic got the puck in front of Tuokkola and equalized with a fast slap shot. The third period started well for the home team: Petr Mrazek turned the match for Orli. Bolzano tried hard and had some good chances to score, but it was Znojmo who finished the game. Colton Yellow Horn used an empty net of Bolzano and sealed a win for the home team. Ryan Olsen achieved his first point in Znojmo for assisting on Yellow Horn’s goal.
