Clear win for Black Wings against Vienna Capitals | Fehérvár is new league leader

The 28th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League brought lots of action. The Steinbach Black Wings Linz clearly beat the spusu Vienna Capitals 8:1, scoring six goals in one period for only the third time in league history. In the top game of the day, the EC-KAC celebrated a 5:3 home win over the HCB Südtirol Alperia. Hydro Fehérvár AV19 took the lead in the standings with a 4:2 home win against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. The HC Pustertal, HK SZ Olimpija and BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg prevailed in the other three games.

For only the third time in league history, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz scored six goals in one period. Against the spusu Vienna Capitals, the new second in the table was already leading 6:0 after the first period. The 4:0 by Sean Collins was the end of the evening for Caps goalie Sebastian Wraneschitz. But Stefan Steen also conceded four goals in the rest of the game. Emilio Romig and Shwan St-Amant scored twice for the Black Wings, who have won all three season duels against Vienna so far. Niki Hartl scored the only goal for Vienna six minutes before the end of the game.

KAC defeats Bolzano
After three home defeats in a row against the HCB Südtirol Alperia, the EC-KAC won 5:3 against the hottest team in the league. It was the third win in a row for Klagenfurt, who remain fourth in the table. Bolzano, on the other hand, suffered only their second defeat in the last 14 games, but slipped back to seventh place in the table and are now three points behind sixth-placed Pustertal. In Klagenfurt, the Foxes were 0:2 down after just four minutes of play. However, it took the visitors less than five minutes at the start of the middle period to level the scores. Clemens Unterweger finally put the EC-KAC ahead again in the 35th minute. It was the defender's fourth goal of the season. In the final period, Thomas Vallant even increased the lead to 4:2 in the 47th minute, but Bolzano still had numerous big chances in the final minutes. Dustin Gazley finally scored 83 seconds before the end of the game to make it 3:4. It was the 35-year-old's second goal of the evening and his eleventh goal of the season. However, the Foxes were unable to equalize, with Lukas Haudum scoring an empty-net goal thirteen seconds before the end of the game.

Pustertal is back in the Top-6
Following the defeat of Bolzano and the HC Pustertal's 2:1 away win at the Moser Medical Graz99ers, the Wolves are back in sixth place in the table. However, they are only three points ahead of the HCB. In a very evenly matched game at the bottom of the table in Graz, the HCP took the lead in the power play in the fifth minute. However, the home side, for whom it was their second defeat in a row, were able to equalize in the 35th minute through Sam Antonitsch. Pustertal scored the game-winner in the 43rd minute. Jason Akeson scored after an assist by Joel Messner. It was Pustertal's third away win in a row and their first success after two home defeats in a row.

Pioneers end losing streak
The BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg ended a six-game losing streak with a narrow 3:2 home win against the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV. In the "Teddy Bear Toss“ game, league top goalscorer Steven Owre put the home side ahead in the fifth minute in the power play. The 1,500 fans in the Vorarlberghalle then threw lot´s of teddy bears onto the ice for a good cause. The VSV equalized right at the start of the second period while short-handed, before Owre scored again to give the Pioneers the lead. It was the Canadian's 21st and 22nd goals of the season, but Villach equalized again less than two minutes later through Anthony Luciani. It remained 2:2 until the 45th minute, before Bobbo Petersson scored to make it 3:2. It was the defender's second goal of the season. A few seconds before the end of the game, the Eagles had a huge chance to equalize, but PIV goalkeeper Alex Caffi made a great save. It was VSV's sixth away defeat in a row. They remain in fifth place in the table, while the Pioneers are tenth, but are now seven points ahead of eleventh-placed Vienna.



Fehérvár is the new league leader | Kuralt scored a hat-trick
With their sixth home win in a row, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 took over the lead in the table. The Hungarians have a two-point lead over Linz and have three points more than Salzburg. However, the Red Bulls have played two games less than Fehérvár and Linz. Anze Kuralt excelled in the 4:2 win against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey, scoring three goals in a row to turn a 0:1 into a 3:1. The forward also made an assist in the fourth goal. Asiago suffered their fifth defeat in the last six games and are already eight points behind the tenth place in the table. In the first match of the season in Székesfehérvár, the home side won 10:2.

In the sixth game of the day, the HK SZ Olimpija won 3:0 at the HC TIWAG Innsbruck. It was the third shutout of the season for HKO goalie Lukas Horak. Chris Dodero (10.), Miha Bericic (16./SH1) and Trevor Gooch (59./EN) scored for Ljubljana. It was the second win for the Slovenians in the third duel of the season. As ninth place in the table, they are only five points behind eighth-placed Innsbruck and already eight points ahead of the eleventh place.
