Dave Barr led the Capitals to the semifinals of the win2day ICE Hockey League in his debut season after finishing fourth in the regular season. The 61-year-old Canadian can look back on a long career in the NHL. After a total of 685 games for the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings, among others, the former winger opened a new chapter. After three years in various positions with the Houston Aeros, Barr took over Guelph Storm from the Ontario Hockey League, first as general manager, and from 2004 also as head coach. He won the OHL title in his very first season. In 2008, Barr's path led him to the NHL as an assistant coach. In the world's best ice hockey league, the former pro player worked for the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, New Jersey Devils, Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers and San Jose Sharks. Before Barr took over the spusu Vienna Capitals in August 2021, the Canadian celebrated his greatest success as a head coach: he led his home country to the gold medal at the U18 World Championship.

"I am very happy about the contract extension. There are a lot of players coming back who have a lot of character. I personally appreciate the support of the spusu Vienna Capitals' sporting management and want to celebrate further successes with the club," said Barr, who will continue to have assistant coach Christian Dolezal and goalie coach Varian Kirst at his side.
