At 28, David Trivellato is one of the more experienced players on the HC Meran/o Pircher roster. The forward, who has been playing for the South Tyrolean side since 2022, will not soon forget last season’s remarkable run to the Finals. In the interview, Trivellato reflects on that achievement, looks ahead to the opening game – a rematch of last season’s Finals – and talks about Meran’s goals for the new campaign and the race for the championship.

Looking back on last season, how proud are you of the team for making it all the way to the Finals, especially considering that not many people expected you to get that far?
David Trivellato: “Obviously, I’m very proud of what we achieved last year. Nobody really expected us to get that far, but we made it. That shows that our hard work paid off. It was the result of a great team and a great group of guys.”

You’ll open the season with a rematch of last year’s Finals against Val Gardena. How much are you looking forward to getting at least a small chance for revenge right away?
David Trivellato: “It’s the first game of the season, so we don’t want to think too much about what happened last year. It’s important to focus on what’s coming up and take it day by day.”

What are your goals heading into the new season, and which teams do you see as the main title contenders?
David Trivellato: “We have to put in the work every single day and see how far we can go. For me, as one of the older guys, the main goal is obviously to help the young players, especially the new guys, and be a leader on the team. We need to be a great group and then see how far we can go. We showed last year that if we are a strong group, we can go very far.

As for who the favorites are to win the league, it’s a strong league and everybody can compete with everybody. At the end of the season, we’ll see who deserves it the most.”
