Defeats for top duo | Bregenzerwald surprises Ritten

Friday evening in the Alps Hockey League brought a few surprises, as both the league leader and the first pursuer suffered defeats. EK Die Zeller Eisbären lost in a dramatic 5:6 shootout against HK RST Pellet Celje, while Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel suffered a clear 1:5 defeat against league newcomer KHL Sisak. In addition, EC Bregenzerwald surprisingly prevailed against defending champion Rittner Buam SkyAlps.

HK RST Pellet Celje secured a thrilling 6:5 shootout road victory against the current league leader EK Die Zeller Eisbären. Two early goals by Philipp Putnik set the tone for the “Eisbären”, but Celje managed to respond with Rozle Bohinc’s first goal of the season in the first period. As the game progressed, Zell am See extended their lead, but Celje answered with three goals in quick succession, including the 3:3 equalizer by Gal Sodja who marking his first of the season. The Eisbären responded with Leon Widhalm’s equalizer, also his first of the season. After Celje regained the lead, Hubert Berger tied the game 5:5 in the 43rd minute with his first of the season, sending the game into a scoreless overtime. Ultimately, Bohdan Panasenko secured the win for Celje with a successful penalty shot.

Big win for Sisak
League newcomer KHL Sisak achieved an impressive 5:1 home victory over the Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel in front of 1,823 spectators. Sisak took the lead with two goals by Bruno Idzan, but Alexander Maxa scored Kitzbühel’s only goal of the night in response. Ivan Puzdic extended Sisak’s lead with his first goal of the season. Sisak’s top scorer, Bruno Idzan, completed his hat trick in the 44th minute, and a final goal by Vlastimil Dostalek sealed the victory, elevating Sisak to third place in the standings. Both teams face again already on Saturday in Sisak.

EC Bregenzerwald with victory against last season’s champions
EC Bregenzerwald narrowly defeated last season’s champions Rittner Buam SkyAlps with a 4:3 victory. Bregenzerwald led 2:1 in the first period, with goals from Philipp Pöschmann and Aron Summer, each scoring their first of the season. Ritten equalized in the second period with a goal by Kevin Fink, but Bregenzerwald regained the lead with Lurin Wempe’s first goal of the season. Ritten managed to tie the game just before the second intermission. In the third period, a goal by Manuel Metzler secured the win for Bregenzerwald, further distancing them from last place in the standings.

Red Bull Hockey Juniors with a road win
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors clinched a 5:2 road win against the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. After a scoreless first period, the Salzburg “Juniors” took the lead in the second period, while the Cavaliers responded late with a goal from their top scorer, Daniels Murnieks. Despite trailing, the Cavaliers couldn't match their opponents’ scoring, and Adrian Gesson notched his second goal of the night in the 56th minute. An empty-net goal by Salzburg in the 58th minute secured the victory.

In the last match of the day, SIJ Acroni Jesenice celebrated a 6:2 road victory against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, moving up to fourth place in the standings. Jesenice took the lead in the first period and maintained their pace in the second, finishing the period at 3:0. With goals from David Baloh - his first of the season - and Tjas Lesnicar - his second of the game -, Jesenice further extended their lead. Gherdeina responded with a goal from Simon Pitschieler, but the Slovenians scored once more before the end. A late goal by Gherdeina came too late to alter the game’s momentum.
