Josh Roach spent his junior hockey years in his hometown of Saskatoon in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. In 2009, he made the jump to the Humbold Broncos, where he was voted the SJHL's best defenceman as a junior league defenceman. After his junior days ended, Roach went to college for five years where he continued his hockey career at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2018, he was selected to the CIS (West) Collegiate League All Star Team and also received an award for his athleticism and skill.

Roach then signed his first professional contract in the UK with the Belfast Giants. He scored no less than 55 points in 64 games. In the 2019/2020 season, the offer then came from the Black Wings and he moved to Linz. In his first season, the Canadian recorded 36 points in 53 games and a plus/minus statistic of +11.

After the end of the season, Roach wanted to hang up his skates for personal reasons. However, the offensive defender is now returning to Upper Austria and has signed a contract until 2022.
