Dornbirn defeats Salzburg again
Bottom-placed Dornbirn Bulldogs delivered another upset against leader EC Red Bull Salzburg, as they repeated their road-win from November 12th, getting a 4:3 OT-win at home to end a seven-game losing streak. Salzburg suffered their second road defeat in the running season. Though, it looked like that the Red Bulls got out of a tight spot, as they tied the game three times against ambitious hosts, with Raphael Herburger securing overtime 43 seconds left. But the Bulldogs earned a deserved extra point in overtime, after William Rapuzzi scored right after the face-off.
Vienna records highest win ever over Linz
The spusu Vienna Capitals cheered their highest win ever (since 2003-04 season) over the EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz, as the second-placed team outclassed Linz 8:0. After the fourth straight loss, the Upper Austrians dropped to fifth place in standings again. The hosts decided the game with four goals in the first 14 minutes and recorded the result with four more in the following frames. With seven different players scoring, netminder Ryan Zapolski (15 saves) had his second shutout of the season. Vienna’s captain Mario Fischer remained without a scoring point in his 600th Erste Bank Eishockey Liga game.
Bolzano cheers record-win too
The HCB Südtirol Alperia recorded his highest derby win ever against HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie”, defeating the “sharks” 7:0 to narrow the gap to the top-5, trailing only one point. The „foxes“ collected the 14th win in the 16th home-game against Innsbruck. Jamie Arniel (2.) gave the hosts an early lead, and they found the preliminary decision with five unanswered goals in the second. The road-team suffered its 20th season-loss to remain tenth in standings.
Fehérvár comes back twice
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 recorded its fourth straight road-win, after defeating third-ranked HC Orli Znojmo after overtime 4:3. Despite missing a lot of key-players due to diseases, the Hungarian side tied a 0:2 deficit thanks to Felix Girard and Mike Caruso in the second. Girard’s deflection sent the game to overtime, after the Czech side retook the lead in the third. In the extra session Andrew Sarauer secured Fehérvár’s first win against the “eagles” this season an the 19th overall. Znojmo remains third, grabbing points in the eleventh consecutive game.
EC-KAC back on winning ways
The EC-KAC is back on winning ways, as the reigning champion gained a 3:2 shootout-win in the home-game against the Moser Medical Graz99ers to end a four-games losing streak, climbing to fourth spot in standings. The Styrian side grabbed points for the sixth time in a row. To get this point, the hosts had to work hard, because the “Rotjacken” opened the scoring right away with Manuel Geier scoring on powerplay. Martin Schumnig doubled up early in the last – but the guests came back: Daniel Oberkofler halved it five minutes to go, and Ken Ograjensek sent the game to overtime two seconds left. Manuel Ganahl secured the extra point for the hosts in shootout.
