With a 3:0 win at Hydro Fehérvár AV19 the Dornbirn Bulldogs stopped bet-at-home ICE Hockey League’s best team on the offensive end, as Oskar Östlund posted his first shutout. While leader HCB Südtirol Alperia needed a shootout at Villach after leading twice for the win, third-ranked EC-KAC defeated Salzburg thanks to Paul Postma and Matt Fraser each having a brace. The iClinic Bratislava Capitals cheered a comfortable 4:1 road win in Graz.
Dornbirn cheers shutout win at Fehérvár
The Dornbirn Bulldogs started their road trip with a 3:0 shutout win at second-place Hydro Fehérvár AV19. Thus, the third season duel of these two teams ended with a road win too. DEC goalie Oskar Östlund stopped 32 shots on goal and celebrated his first shutout against the best offense of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. A good start to the middle frame with a goal of Kevin Macierzynski (22.) got the sixth-placed team on winning ways, currently three points behind fifth-placed Salzburg. Stefan Häußle (34./PP1) added another in the second period before Andrew Yogan (49.) finally decided the game with his third goal in the third consecutive game.
Two quick goals at the beginning of the last sent KAC on winning ways
With its eighth home win, EC-KAC moved up to third place in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. The 6:3 victory over EC Red Bull Salzburg was Klagenfurt's fifth win in the sixth game of 2021. For the fourth time this year, the "Rotjacken" scored six goals and have now become the fourth team to reach the 100-goal mark. The "Red Bulls", still in fifth place, suffered their second defeat in a row and the third in a row away from home. The home team got a perfect start thanks to Paul Postma (3./PP1), but saw themselves trailing two after 32 minutes, which again the Canadian - Postma scored a brace for the third time in the last four games - balanced (33.). The "Rotjacken" provided the preliminary decision in the first minutes of the final period, scored within 41 seconds to lead 4:2: Manuel Ganahl (44.) converted a penalty, before Matt Fraser, who had been fouled earlier, scored backhanded through the legs of JP Lamoureux on the breakaway. Steven Strong (51.) added one more with around nine minutes remaining on a blueliner, Fraser making the empty-netter. Thomas Raffl scored a brace in Salzburg’s defeat.
Bardaro decides it for Bolzano in shootout
HCB Südtirol Alperia has won its second game in Carinthia with 3:2 too. After the victory on Tuesday in Klagenfurt, the "Foxes" prevailed this time after shootout at EC GRAND Immo VSV. For the league leader it was the third road win in a row, they are now two points ahead of the second Hydro Fehérvár AV19. The "eagles", who missed five regulars, are still in second last place. Villach always had an answer to the two-time lead of the guests from South Tyrol - Daniel Frank opened the game already after 65 seconds. In the shootout after a scoreless overtime, where Villach missed one powerplay occasion, Anthony Bardaro scored the game-winner.
Bratislava pins down first season win over Graz
The iClinic Bratislava Capitals celebrated their first win in the third duel of the season against the Moser Medical Graz99ers. The bet-at-home ICE Hockey League newcomer won 4:1 on the road and moved up to eighth place in the table with their second win in a row. The Styrians, who started with a new line-up, suffered their third defeat in a row and are seventh, only three points ahead of the Slovaks. They also started very pressure fully, were 2:0 ahead early through Sacha Guimond (4.) and Mitch Hults (7.) - that's when G99 goalie Felix Nussbacher was replaced. In the 35th minute Bratislava top-scorer Hults laced the brace, showed his second multiple-goal game after the season-opener. Anton Mylläri scored the lone goal in the final period for the home side, who had to accept an empty-netter from Brock Higgs at the end.
