In Monday’s lone Erste Bank Eishockey Liga about 4.000 spectators saw a balanced first frame with 11 shots on goal each in Bolzano’s Palaonda. Though, the guests, which had head coach Kai Suikkanen coming to South Tyrol for the first time, grabbed the lead thanks to Jordan Subban. Despite the “foxes” picked it up in the second, Subban doubled about around halfway of the game, after Juhani Tamminen assisting perfect. But the hosts got rewarded immediately, as Domenico Alberga shortened the deficit 29 seconds later. Still in the second, the home-team leveled the score with Anton Bernard scoring in the slot about two minutes left.
In the last period Bolzano, for which Ivan Deluca played his 100th game, put a lot of pressure on the Bulldogs, but Dornbirn’s netminder Juha Järvenpää saved all 16 – and overall 42 – shots on his goal to secure overtime, where no team could score. Kevin Macierzynski hit the decisive penalty for the Bulldogs to grab the fourth win out of five games.
