Jesenice take on Kitzbühel
The centrepiece of Thursday’s slate is the meeting between HD Jesenice and the Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. Both teams sit in the top six of the standings. While the Slovenians suffered a defeat against Zell am See in Tuesday’s top-of-the-table clash after previously winning six games in a row, they have underlined their dominance on home ice with the maximum of twelve points from four home games. Kitzbühel, however, travel with confidence, having won three of their last four games. A look at the past shows that Kitzbühel won two of the three head-to-head meetings last season.

Three explosive derbies
In the first Salzburg derby of the season, the Juniors, who have picked up seven points from nine games so far, host Zell am See. The Pinzgau side has been in excellent form since their opening-game defeat and arrives with a six-game winning streak that has propelled them to third place in the standings.

Asiago are currently fourth but suffered a defeat against Sisak in their most recent outing. Their opponents, Cortina, have so far fallen short of expectations with just three points from six games. With only ten goals scored, Cortina also currently have the league’s weakest offence. In each of the last four meetings, the home team prevailed.

In addition, HC Gherdëina valgardena.it host the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan in the South Tyrol derby. Gherdeina celebrated their first win in regulation time last time out, while Sterzing sit at the bottom of the table with just two points from five games. Last season’s meetings promised goals: a total of 28 were scored across the three encounters.

On Thursday, EC KAC Future Team and the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers also meet in a clash between two teams from the bottom third of the standings. Klagenfurt have lost their last four games, while Unterland have lost their last six. The KAC can take heart from the fact that their only win of the season so far came at home, while the Cavaliers have lost both of their away games to date.

Semifinal rematch in Meran
On Friday, HC Meran/o Pircher host KHL Sisak at home. It is a rematch of last season’s semifinal, in which Meran booked their ticket to the final. The South Tyroleans suffered a defeat against Ritten last time out after four consecutive wins. For the visitors from Sisak, wins and defeats have alternated over their last four games – a trend the Croatian team will look to break in Meran.
