Caps earned big win in Aalborg
The Aalborg Pirates were more dangerous in period 1, but the goal was scored by the Vienna Capitals. Emil Romig potted the 1:0 in minute 16. After the re-start, the Capitals were on fire: Peter Schneider (29., 39./pp2), Matt Clark (32.) and Andreas Nödl extended the lead to 5:0. The Aalborg Pirates had their chances as well, but goalie J.P. Lamoureux made some great saves and was not to beat in period 2 too. In the end, Vienna won in Aalborg 6:1 and celebrated the first CHL-win 2018.
Salzburg celebrated second win against the Cardiff Devils
EC Red Bull Salzburg had a good start into the game: Huber deflected the puck after a shot from Viveiros and gave his team an early lead (6.). The Cardiff Devils stayed unimpressed and threatened with shots from Ulmer, who just hit the post and Linglet and Reddick (13./14.). Salzburg was more effectiv infront of the net: VandeVelde potted the 2:0 after a backhander from Hughes. The Mozart Citizens were the chief on the ice then and they had chances for a higher lead, but Gazley and Duncan only hit the post. After the re-start Salzburg extended their lead with two Power Play goals netted by Harris and Herburger - 4:0. Cardiff did not give up and took over the control of the game. Goalie Lukas Herzog showed some good saves, but he was helpless against the shots from Hedden from close range and Ulmer in a 5-on-3-Power Play. This was a wake-up-call for Salzburg. The Austrians responded with much offense in the final minutes, but they couldn‘t score again.
Foxes remain undefeated after Shoot Out in in Helsinki
The fixture took a while to get going as both teams – IFK Helsinki and HCB Südtirol Alperia - struggled to create any clear-cut chances on even strength. Luckily there were enough powerplay chances to capitalise on: Finally in minute 22, Teemu Eronen beat goalie Irving with a blueliner in a Power Play. The guests from Bozen responded quickly in a Power Play as well: Ivan Deluca scored from a rebound from close range (32.). Then, each goalie allowed no other goal. So, the game had to be decided in a Shoot Out, where Carozza became the Match Winner with the 24th Penalty. Bozen earned their third win in their third CHL-game 2018.
Bulldogs lost their last test in Langnau
The Dornbirn Bulldogs finished their Pre Season in Langnau on Thursday. The two teams has a chippy game. Brodie Reid (31./pp1) netted the lead for the Austrians in a Power Play in minute 31. The Swiss NLA-club responded quickly and turned the game with two Power Play goals scored by Eero Elo (35.) and Benjamin Neukom (40.). In the last 20 minutes, each team had some more power play opportunities, but the score stayed unchanged.
