EC-KAC is just one win short from winning the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League 2020/21. Klagenfurt remained unbeaten in its eighth home playoff game this season. Final game five follows on Tuesday in Bolzano (faceoff 7:30 p.m.).

The EC-KAC, which again did not make any changes to their line-up, got off to a perfect start in the fourth final game of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League: From the first face-off it took exactly 16 seconds until Matt Fraser scored his eighth playoff goal to give the "Rotjacken" an early 1-0 lead. It was the fastest final goal ever scored in the ICE. Klagenfurt remained with a lot of pressure during the first period, allowing no big chances - but also missing a first powerplay towards the end.

At the beginning of the second period, there was a change in the referee team: Ladislav Smetana could not continue the game after an unfortunate collision with scorer Fraser in the final phase of the opening frame and got substituted by Stefan Siegel. HCB Südtirol Alperia, with Mike Halmo back after a four-game suspension, got better - especially through their penalty killing: from the middle of the second period, the "Foxes" were faced with almost seven minutes of shorthanded situations, but survived them unscathed. Daniel Catenacci then had the chance to equalize, but he failed lone in front of Sebastian Dahm. Also a late powerplay of the guests remained then without scoring.

In the final period, Bolzano enhanced pressure and had more chances to score the equalizer. Soon later the equalizer was scored by captain Anton Bernard, who celebrated his 32nd birthday on this day. Angelo Miceli's unchallenged shot only hit Dahm's pads before Bernard fired it home into the empty net. The teams then slowed down a bit, not wanting to risk much in regulation - and so the first overtime of this year's finals followed. There, Bernard became the tragic hero: He received a two-minute penalty for delay of game and the EC-KAC used this powerplay to score the decisive goal. Blaz Gregorc slammed the puck into the net in the 64th minute and secured the final puck for the “Rotjacken”.
