Mitens brings valuable international experience to Klagenfurt. After playing college hockey in the United States, the Latvian goaltender gained professional experience in the AHL and ECHL before returning to Europe in 2023. Since then, he has played in the top leagues of Czechia and Slovakia.

On the international stage, Mitens was first selected for Latvia's World Championship roster in 2025 and made his tournament debut against Finland at the 2026 IIHF World Championship in Switzerland.

At KAC, Mitens will form a goaltending duo with Florian Vorauer. According to General Manager Oliver Pilloni, the club evaluated around 30 available goaltenders before deciding on the Latvian international. His experience, sporting profile and financial suitability were key factors in the decision.

Mitens is expected to arrive in Klagenfurt this weekend. His contract initially runs until the international break in November.
