EVB Eagles defend top spot – Wins also for Lakers, Lady Hawks and Budapest

Four games were played on Sunday in the European Women’s Hockey League, with two of them also counting towards the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League standings. League leaders EVB Eagles South Tyrol claimed a home victory over MAC Budapest, while the Lakers Kärnten and the VSV Lady Hawks earned important wins in the AWHL. Meanwhile, Budapest Jegkorong Akademia celebrated a clear road win in Kapfenberg.

EVB Eagles South Tyrol – MAC Budapest 5:3
In Bolzano, the EVB Eagles South Tyrol held onto first place with a hard-fought 5–3 win against MAC Budapest. After conceding an early goal, Head Coach Stefano Daprà’s team turned the game around in the second period, taking a decisive lead through goals from Giuliani, Ceregihini and Kaneppele. The South Tyroleans outshot their opponents 32–19 and solidified their position atop the EWHL standings.

KSV Highlanders – Budapest Jegkorong Akademia 1:5
In Kapfenberg, the Highlanders were defeated by a strong Budapest side. The visitors came out flying, scoring twice within the opening 70 seconds. Wysocki was the standout player with a hat-trick, leading the Akademia to an important win that lifted them up the standings.

Lakers Kärnten – DEC Salzburg Eagles 3:2
In Ferlach, the Lakers Kärnten earned a narrow home win over the DEC Salzburg Eagles. After an even contest, Soccio scored the game-winner in the 46th minute to seal the victory for the Lakers. Head Coach Günther Ropatsch’s team celebrated its third win of the season and remains within striking distance of the AWHL leaders.

Graz99ers Huskies – VSV Lady Hawks 1:5
The VSV Lady Hawks cruised to a convincing 5–1 road win against the Graz99ers Huskies. Zimmermann and Miljone each scored twice to lead Villach to a dominant victory. With this result, the Lady Hawks improved their position in both standings and are now tied with the Lakers for third place in the AWHL. The Villach side capped off a perfect weekend, having defeated defending AWHL champions Sabres St. Pölten just one day earlier.
