Sabres St. Pölten finished on top of the regular season standings and advanced past the DEC Salzburg Eagles in the quarter-finals, despite suffering a narrow loss in the second leg. They now meet MAC Budapest in the semi-finals after the Hungarian side edged HK PSRZ Bratislava in the quarter-finals. The first game will be played in Budapest on Friday, before the series shifts to St. Pölten on Sunday. The team with the higher aggregate score will advance to the final.

The Kazakhstan-based team, which is also playing its home games in Styria, will then meet the Highlanders again on Sunday in the decisive second leg for a place in the final.
