The Canadian began his professional career in 2017 in the AHL and ECHL, before moving to Europe for the first time three years later. There he played in Denmark for the Odense Bulldogs and Aalborg Pirates. After a season with Rytíři Kladno in the Czech Republic, the defenseman hit the ice for HK Nitra at the start of the current season. In the Slovakian championship Donaghey had twelve points (4G, 8A) in 30 games. Now followed the transfer to the runner-up of the win2day ICE Hockey League.

"I am very happy about this opportunity, as I have heard only good things about the club. I haven't played in the league yet, I'm looking forward to my first game in front of the fans of Fehérvár. I consider myself an offensive-minded defender, I see the league style and my game as a good match," said Donaghey after signing the contract. "My goal is of course to help the team win as many games as possible. I know the team made it to the finals last year and I hope we can have the same success together this year," said the newcomer, who is expected to play his first game in Tuesday's away match against Klagenfurt.
