Hydro Fehérvár AV19 have completed the semifinal lineup in the win2day ICE Hockey League. The Hungarian side defeated EC-KAC 3–0 at home on Wednesday in Game 6 of their quarterfinal series. It marks the first time in league history that a team finishing the regular season in tenth place has reached the semifinals.

In the next round, Fehérvár will face regular season winners Moser Medical Graz99ers, who have also been confirmed as Austrian champions. The second semi-final will see HC Falkensteiner Pustertal take on Olimpija Ljubljana. Both ‘best-of-seven’ series begin on Sunday.

After two consecutive wins, Fehérvár entered the game full of confidence. In a largely balanced opening period, the home team repeatedly applied offensive pressure, but KAC also created chances of their own. Shortly before the first intermission, the visitors missed the best opportunity of the frame — the teams went to the locker rooms with the score still tied at zero.

Five minutes into the second period, Thimo Nickl was sent to the penalty box (2+2 minutes), and Fehérvár made immediate use of the power play: captain Csanád Erdély redirected a shot from Messner to make it 1–0. Klagenfurt, on the other hand, was unlucky in its first man advantage, hitting the post. Shortly before the end of the period, KAC goaltender Sebastian Dahm prevented a second goal with a brilliant save.

The Hungarians came out with great energy in the final frame, looking determined and allowing very little defensively. On the rare occasions when the visitors threatened, goaltender Rasmus Reijola — who celebrated his fourth shutout of the season — was always in position. After a superb setup from Erdély, János Hári doubled the lead in the 56th minute, and Trever Cheek sealed the deal with an empty-net goal.
