The fans witnessed a spectacular opening: after just 31 seconds, Janos Hari put the home side in front from close range. Csanad Erdely (4th) and Anze Kuralt, with a brilliant solo effort (5th), quickly extended the lead to 3-0. But Innsbruck’s newcomer Steven Owre responded only seconds later with the first goal for the visitors. Forty seconds before the end of the opening period, Jan Lattner cut the deficit to 3-2. In the middle frame, the Tyroleans completed the comeback from three goals down, as Stefan Klassek capitalized on a rebound to tie the game. In the 46th minute, however, Fehérvár struck back on the power play when Darren Archibald made it 4-3, before Tim Campbell extended the lead to 5-3 just five minutes later. In an intense and at times heated final phase, Owre scored his second of the night to pull Innsbruck within one. In the end, though, Fehérvár managed to hold on and secure the narrow win.
