In the decisive pre-playoff clash in Vienna, Fehérvár took an early lead after just five minutes – and did so while shorthanded. Following a quick counterattack, Trevor Cheek converted a feed from Hari to make it 1-0. Late in the first period, AVS goalie Reijola was called into action and preserved his team’s narrow lead heading into the intermission. The Capitals increased the pressure in the second period and were unlucky to hit the post, but Reijola stood tall once again, keeping Fehérvár’s net untouched even during Vienna's second power play. Early in the final frame, Koschek had a great chance to equalize, but the Finnish goaltender denied him as well. Both teams created dangerous opportunities down the stretch, with Vienna goalie Cowley also making strong saves. In the closing minutes, the Capitals went all out in search of the tying goal, but Souch and his teammates could not find a way past Reijola. Fehérvár held on to claim a hard-fought win and complete the ICE League quarterfinal lineup.
