Release from 02.02.2024
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 became the second team to secure the ticket for the Playoffs of the win2day ICE Hockey League on Friday. The Hungarians narrowly beat the spusu Vienna Capitals 2:1 at home. For the Viennese, on the other hand, the Pre-Playoffs are almost out of sight, as the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg celebrated a 6:2 home win against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. As a result, the team from „Ländle“ already has a twelve-point lead over the Viennese. In the battle for the top six, the Steinach Black Wings Linz beat the HCB Südtirol Alperia 4:3 at home, while the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV claimed a 3:2/OT win in the "Karawanken derby" against the HK SZ Olimpija, which puts the Carinthians back in the top six. Meanwhile, league leader EC-KAC and the EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated clear victories.
The last round before the International Break is scheduled for Sunday. Among others, the EC-KAC and the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV will meet in the top clash. PULS 24 will broadcast the Carinthian derby live from 17:05. The other games will be available in the PPV stream on www.live.ice.hockey.
Second-placed Hydro Fehérvár AV19 celebrated a 2:1 home win against the spusu Vienna Capitals to secure a place in the Playoffs for the fourth time in a row. With currently 85 points, it is also already the best Regular Season for the Hungarians since they joined the league. Previously, 84 points from the 2021/22 season was the maximum. Back then, Fehérvár made it to the final, where they lost to Salzburg. However, they initially trailed against the Capitals. Zane Franklin put the team in eleventh place in the table in the 14th minute in the lead. However, the home side stayed stable and equalized in the 36th minute through Daniel Leavens in the powerplay, before Janos Hari scored the game-winner in the 42nd minute, also in the powerplay. It was Fehérvár's sixth win in a row in all competitions. The Capitals have only won three of their last ten games and are now already twelve points behind the Pioneers Vorarlberg, who are tenth in the table. Both teams can still pick up a maximum of 15 points.
The Vorarlberg team beat Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 6:2 at home. The 20-year-old Luca Erne scored his first brace in the win2day ICE Hockey League. Giordano Finoro scored twice for Asiago. The game was still tied 2:2 until just under six minutes before the end, when league top goal scorer Steven Owre scored his 29th goal of the season.
Important home wins for Linz and Villach
In the battle for the top 6, both the Steinbach Black Wings Linz and the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV picked up important home victories on Friday. The Black Wings won against the HCB Südtirol Alperia with a 4:3 and celebrated their first home win since December 22nd. It was also their first win in regulation since January 1st. Sean Collins was the player of the match with a brace. The 35-year-old Canadian first equalized the score to make it 1:1 and then scored the 4:3 game-winner four and a half minutes before the end of the game. In the meantime, the Black Wings were already 2:1 and 3:2 in the lead. The Upper Austrians climbed to the fifth place in the table, just behind Bolzano. The South Tyroleans, who conceded a defeat for the first time after four wins in a row, are two points ahead of Linz.
Villach is one point behind Linz. The Eagles won the "Karawanken derby" against The HK SZ Olimpija 3:2/OT and thus moved up to sixth place in the table, but have the same number of points as seventh-placed Innsbruck. The Tyroleans were free from play on Friday. In a very close game against Olimpija, the score was tied 1:1 until 112 seconds before the end of the game. Maximilian Rebernig then gave the VSV the lead, but the Slovenians responded once again and equalized through Ville Leskinen with 35 seconds remaining. In overtime, it was Andrew Desjardins who secured the extra point for Villach. Olimpija are ninth in the table and six points behind the top six.
Clear wins for KAC and Salzburg
League leader EC-KAC and third-placed EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated clear victories. The KAC won 7:1 at the HC Pustertal. Nick Petersen scored a hat-trick. It was one of eight wins from the last ten games for the Klagenfurt team. The Carinthians remain five points clear of first-pursuer Fehérvár in the table and ten points ahead of third-placed Salzburg. Pustertal, who suffered their second defeat in a row, remain eighth, but are now three points behind the top six.
Salzburg beat bottom-of-the-table Moser Medical Graz99ers 9:1 at home. It was the Red Bulls' highest win of the season and their highest victory against the 99ers since November 29, 2020, when Salzburg won 10:2 in front of their home crowd. Friday's result did not initially look that high. The home side were only 2:1 in front after the first period. Three goals followed in the second period and four in the final period. Man of the match was the American Drake Rymsha, who scored his first hat-trick in his 17th game for the Red Bulls. It was the third game in a row in which the 25-year-old center scored at least one goal.
