The race to Opel & Beyschlag Young Star of the season 21-22 is on, with one player each of EC Red Bull Salzburg, Hydro Fehérvár AV19, HC TESLA Orli Znojmo and three of EC GRAND Immo VSV. Voting closes Friday night.

Five players are up for election for the Opel & Beyschlag Young Star of the season 21-22 award. From the previous monthly winners, fans, PULS24 experts and journalists will now vote for the annual winner - their votes count for one third each, in case of a tie the better ranking from the fan voting will decide the winner of the year.

The following five players are available for selection.

Benjamin Lanzinger (EC GRAND Immo VSV) | Gewinner September/Oktober
Benjamin Lanzinger won the first monthly election. He is a native of Villach and, apart from two short loan engagements (Klagenfurt and Zell am See), played exclusively for his hometown club EC GRAND Immo VSV. He made his debut in the first team already at the age of 16, on September 25th 2016, be in the 1-4 against Moser Medical Graz99er. He scored his first professional goal a good three weeks after his debut in a 6-5 OT win against HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie. In the current season, the 22-year-old is Villach's top domestic scorer with 13 goals and 13 assists.

Michal Kvasnica (HC TESLA Orli Znojmo) | Gewinner November
Born in Ostrava, Michal Kvasnica, he won the election in November, learned to play hockey at HC Slezan Opava and moved to Trinec at the age of U16. There he made his debut in the Czech first division in the 17-18 season, playing a total of eight games, seven of them in the playoff. The following campaign, Kvasnica had a stint in the WHL with Portland Winterhawks (8G|12). A move to Vancouver Giants (9G|11A) then followed for the former Czech junior international before he returned home and to HC TESLA Orli Znojmo. During the last season he was loaned to SHC Fassa Falcons - this year he was an integral part of the ICE quarterfinalists and justified the trust placed in him with seven goals and assists each.

Paul Huber (EC Red Bull Salzburg) | Gewinner Dezember
For Paul Huber, it is already the third participation in the season's election. He finished third in each of the last two seasons. In the current campaign, the Austrian of title favorites EC Red Bull Salzburg won the December voting. The forward, who has also been considered for the senior national team since this season, moved from Graz to the Red Bull organization at an early age. There he went through all the junior teams and made his debut in the first team on December 26th, 2019. In the running campaign, Huber played 51 games (6G|5A) for the semifinalists, and in total he has played 113 games (12G|11A) in the win2day ICE Hockey League. In his eight December games, Huber recorded two goals and one assist - helping Salzburg win all eight.

Milan Horvath (Hydro Fehérvár AV19) | Gewinner Jänner
Milan Horvath has qualified for the season's election after a strong January. Horvath grew up in Székesfehérvár, joined the current semifinalists of the win2day ICE at an early age and went through all junior classes. Since the 20-21 season, the defender has been a regular in the Magyar squad and meanwhile also in the roster of the Hungarian national team. Horvath played in four of the five AVS games in January and showed his great talent and qualities in defense. He recorded one assist in the 4-0 win over Innsbruck. In total, the player, who is also under contract for the upcoming season in Székesfehérvár, collected eleven points (3G|8A) from 49 games.

Maximilian Rebernig (EC GRAND Immo VSV) | Gewinner Februar
EC GRAND Immo VSV sends a second player, Maximilian Rebernig, into the race for the title of Opel & Beyschlag Young Star of the Season. Rebernig, who is currently playing in the semifinals against Fehérvár with Villach, is completing his first season outside the Red Bull organization in Carinthia. He made a total of 16 appearances for Salzburg in the past two seasons. At Villach, he has played 40 games in the running campaign, scoring six goals and adding seven assists so far.

Procedure of the election
First, five monthly winners will be determined. For this purpose, four players per month are nominated to take part in the voting. Due to less gamedays in September 2021, the first two months have been combined into one election. The five monthly winners will then compete in March 2022 for the title of "Opel & Beyschlag Young Star of the 2021/22 season".

The election consists of three components: in addition to the fan voting on the league homepage, the PULS24 experts, as well as journalists vote. If two or more players receive the same number of votes, they will be ranked according to the result of the fan vote.
