The HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana and Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey will face each other in the finals of the Alps Hockey League 2021. Both teams have already won the international championship once each. Ljubljana beat the HC Pustertal Wölfe with4:3 in the finals of the season 2018/19. Asiago won the title in the deciding game too in the 2017/18 season. The opponents at that time were the Rittner Buam. In the season 2016/17, the Italians lost to Ritten in the final with 1:4. This year's final will be played in a "best-of-5" mode. Ljubljana will start with a home game, as they finished the Regular Season in first place and thus ahead of Asiago, who finished in fourth place.

The two teams have already faced each other twice this season. In each encounter the home team celebrated a clear victory. Ljubljana won with 4:1, while Asiago was victorious with 5:2. Overall, however, the defending AHL champions have a clear lead in the H2H. HKO won eight of the ten duels. The two teams have never faced each other in the playoffs before.

With eight goals, Alex Frei (ASH) is currently the top goal scorer in the playoffs. The 27-years-old left wing scored five goals in the semifinal series against HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice alone. With twelve points, the five-time Italian champion is also currently the second-best scorer in the playoffs. However, Frei will miss the start of the final series. An injury sustained in the fifth game of the semifinal series against Jesenice prevents the 25-time Italian international from playing.

Dates for the final series fixed
The dates for the "best-of-5" final series, which starts on Tuesday, have been finally confirmed. All games will start at 8 pm.
