On Monday, July 6, the first pillar of the Fiera Ice Arena was erected, marking a major milestone in the construction of the new ice sports facility at the Fieramilano Rho exhibition centre near Milan. The arena will become the future home of the Milano Hockey Club, the newest member of the win2day ICE Hockey League. The project is being realized through a €7 million investment fully funded by Fondazione Fiera Milano. The arena is scheduled to become operational in early October 2026 and will host not only the home games of Milano Hockey Club but also all youth and women's activities of the Milano HC Prospects.

The press conference, which concluded with the symbolic start of construction, was attended by Fondazione Fiera Milano President Giovanni Bozzetti, Lombardy Region President Attilio Fontana, Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Rho Mayor Andrea Orlandi, and Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG) President Andrea Gios, along with numerous representatives from the sports community and project partners.

The new facility will consist of a 5,190-square-metre air-supported structure featuring eight locker rooms, a pre-game warm-up area, and state-of-the-art infrastructure. In addition to ice hockey, the venue will also accommodate para ice hockey, figure skating, short track, and curling. The arena will be operated by FRIA SSD a r.l. (Fiera Rho Ice Academy), a joint venture between Fondazione Fiera Milano and the FISG, headed by Diego Cattani. The official opening is scheduled for October and will coincide with the celebrations marking the FISG's 100th anniversary.

"Just over three months after the project was presented, the erection of the first pillar marks the transition from planning to construction of the Fiera Ice Arena. It is one of the first and most tangible legacies of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games and part of our strategy to make the exhibition centre an even more vibrant place throughout the year," said Giovanni Bozzetti.

FISG President Andrea Gios also emphasized the importance of the project: "The new national ice sports centre at Rho Fiera is much more than a sports venue. It is an investment in the future of Italian ice sports and one of the most significant long-term legacies of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Medals are wonderful, but a facility like this will benefit the sport for many years to come."

Paolo Florean, Vice President of the Milano Prospects and a member of the Milano Hockey Club Board of Directors, thanked the local institutions and the FISG for their support. Together with Milano Hockey Club, which will compete in the win2day ICE Hockey League, the Milano Prospects aim to provide a complete development pathway for young players, from the U8 level through IHL Division I, as well as a women's program.
