This weekend the Playoffs of the Alps Hockey League will start. Both on Saturday and Sunday there are two games on the schedule. Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and S.G. Cortina Hafro will start with the "Derby Veneto". Also defending champion HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana is in action on Saturday. The winner of the Regular Season will play against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. On Sunday, HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, the second Slovenian team, is in action against playoff newcomer HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. In addition, game one between the HC Pustertal Wölfe and the EHC Lustenau is scheduled. This game had to be postponed from Saturday to Sunday due to medical precautionary measures.

The "Derby Veneto" will start the playoffs of the Alps Hockey League 2020/21. While Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey already got the ticket for the postseason after the Regular Season, S.G. Cortina Hafro had to fight hard against the EC Bregenzerwald in the Pre-Playoffs. Although they prevailed with 2:0 in the "best-of-3" series, both games ended with only one goal difference. Game two even went into overtime. In this the game was decided after 22 minutes and 46 seconds. It was the third-longest overtime in the AHL history. In seven of twelve meetings in the Alps Hockey League between ASH and SGC, the 2018 AHL champion from Asiago had the upper hand. This AHL season, the two teams have dueled four times, with Cortina winning two encounters. Asiago, on the other hand, celebrated only one success in the AHL - one game ended with a draw. In the semifinal series of the Italian championship, however, Asiago prevailed with 2:0.

The 2019 AHL champion, HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana, finished the Regular Season in first place and thus had the first pick right. The Slovenians chose the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan as their opponent. The South Tyroleans surprisingly managed to beat the Red Bull Hockey Juniors with 2:0 in the Pre-Playoffs. In the Alps Hockey League, the two teams have met eight times so far. Ljubljana was only defeated in two duels. This season, the Slovenians celebrated two victories over the Broncos (5:1 & 3:1). Currently, both teams are in excellent form. While the guests from Sterzing have not lost any of their last five games, Ljubljana even emerged victorious in eleven of the last twelve games.

In the first of two games on Sunday, the first quarterfinal duel will take place between HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice and the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. The Slovenians finished the Regular Season in second place, the South Tyroleans had to compete in the Pre-Playoffs. In these they kept the upper hand against the VEU Feldkirch with 2:0. Now Val Gardena has made it to the last eight for the very first time. Never before have they been in the playoffs of the Alps Hockey League. Jesenice, on the other hand, has reached the semifinals in every season so far. However, they never reached the final so far. The Slovenians lead in the H2H with 7:3. Jesenice also won both duels of the season, but the second game only after overtime.

Due to medical precautionary measures, game one of the quarterfinal series between the HC Pustertal Wölfe and the EHC Lustenau will not take place on Saturday, March 27th as planned, but one day later on Sunday, March 28th. The game will start at 18:00. Pustertal finished the Regular Season in third place, which is why they could choose between the last two eligible teams at the Pick. The South Tyroleans chose the EHC Lustenau, who eliminated the first AHL champion Ritten in the Pre-Playoffs. The duel between Pustertal and Lustenau has already taken place twelve times in the Alps Hockey League, with the Wolves winning seven of those encounters. This season, PUS celebrated two victories in the direct duels.
