Four teams keep a clean sheet on Saturday

On Saturday four teams kept a clean sheet with leader HC Pustertal beating champion Asiago 4:0. While the Austrian teams VEU Feldkirch and Red Bull Hockey Juniors now lead the chasing pack, Sterzing ended Ritten's winning-streak. In addition, the bottom-club EC-KAC II earned their second season victory.

Saturday began with a short ceremony in honor of 70th anniversary of hockey in Jesenice. The Steelers were playing withous injured Paradis, Korošec, Glavič and Pem. The first period opened with a quick goal from the visiting team, Niklas Gehringer stole the puck and scored on a breakaway. In the first 20 minutes the fans saw two more goals from Feldkirch by Jordan Pfennich and Dylan Stanley, and the Steelers were down by three. In the second period visiting goalie Alex Caffi was making Jesenice attackers very nervous with his saves. Early in the third Steven Birnstill added a fourth goal but a few minutes later Luka Kalan got Jesenice on the scoreboard. With three and a half minutes to go the hosts took full risk and pulled their goalie,  Christian Jennes rounded off the scoring for a 5:1 Feldkirch road win.

Milan started in attack zone in powerplay but Zan Us was very attentive. At the first opportunity, Ljubljana scored with the deflection of Gregor Koblar in front of the door. Then Milan tried to react but they didn’t succeed. The guests were more effective in attack with the doubling of Miha Zajc in the middle of the period. Then the match was fought but Ljubljana seemed to fly as they closed the first half ahead 3: 0 thanks to Zan Jezovsek's goal. In the second period the Ljubljana changed the goalkeeper: Tilen Spreitzer entered in the net. After 25 minutes there was a fight: Kristjan Cepon was sent off. Despite the subsequent powerplay, Milan didn’t take advantage of it. But David Xamin, in equal strength, made the first goal of redblu team. Not even 43 seconds passed and Milan scored the second goal after a valuable exchange of Caletti for the Guillame Doucet’s goal. The game changed face and the team of coach Omicioli played on the wings of enthusiasm. In the final time of the period Milan first equalized and then took the lead: the protagonist of the two goals was Edoardo Caletti. In the third period Ljubljana returned to play as in the first period. Ales Kranjc tied in powerplay (4:4). Then the Green Dragons try to close the race while Milan played only with some actions on counterattack. The goal that brought forward the Ljubljana came from the shot of Ales Music with a blue line (57.). Then Gal Koren fixed the score on 6: 4 for the Slovenian line-up with an empty net goal.

For the first time this season the Juniors had the EBEL players Daniel Jakubitzka and Alexander Cijan in their lineup. Ealry in the game the hosts hit the post while playing shorthanded. Just a few minutes later Nico Feldner opened the scoring and Caspar Evertsson even doubled it before the first intermission. The visitors took an early penalty in the second and the league's best power play showed their quality as Feldner scored off a Nordberg pass. Soon later Nordberg added a fourth goal and Jesper Kokkila extended the lead to 5:0. The hosts were not tired of scoring goal as Valtteri Meisaari compelte half dozens. In the third Oliver Nordberg rounded off the scoring for a 7:0 home win and the Juniors climbed to second place.

With a 3:0 win, their first ever shutout in Alps Hockey League, EC-KAC II continued their upward trend. In the first period Zell am See had the better of the play but were not able to score because of Klagenfurt's goalie Jakob Holzer. In the middle frame the visitors took over command and after 37 minutes Philipp Cirtek went five-hole on Zell netminder Dominik Frank. Early in the third Daniel Obersteiner doubled the lead off a Marco Richter pass and late in the game Niki Kraus made the game safe.

David Gschnizter and Dino Andreotti were absent in the home team. Stefan Quinz returned to play in the Ritten while Kevin Fink was always absent. In the first half the guests played a lot in defense even if the first real opportunity was on the stick of Imants Lescovs. Then the Sterzing always played with more insistence thanks to the T.Gschnitzer-Sotlar-Just line. After a dangerous deflection of Thomas Spinell for the visitors, Wipptal took the lead after a good second-line action with the score of Kyle Just. This goal was also the only one of the first period. In the second period the Sterzing played for more than one minute in double inferiority but they resisted. With the passing of time the host was increasingly dangerous but Just, Bustreo and Felicetti were not successful. The home team's efforts were rewarded after 27 minutes when Mc Nally served an assist deep enough to double Just again. In the third time the Rittner Buam tried to recover the double disadvantage but the home team was very careful. Brandon McNally scored 3:0 closing the accounts. Sterzing returned to victory as they found the seventh place in the standings surpassing both Renon and Jesenice. Gianluca Vallini earned the second seasonal shutout. Rittner Buam lost the first match after eight consecutive victories.

Pustertal won the big-match of the evening 4:0 with all goals scored in powerplay and in front of 2000 spectators. Tommaso Traversa, Danny Elliscasis and Simon Berger were absent for home team. Michele Marchetti and Phil Pietroniro were available for the guests. Bruneck – Asiago was very fast and good level match in the first minutes. Great pressure in the middle with the Asiago in powerplay. But when the Val Pusteria played in superiority there was the first goal. First there was a great opportunity for Gander but Cloutier could do nothing about the conclusion of Max Oberrauch. Then on the counterattack, Lukas De Lorenzo Meo missed the net. In the last minute of the time Marko Virtala was dangerous with a solitary descent. Cody Corbett scored 2: 0 in the first minutes of the second with a power shot under the crossbar. Then there was a great reaction of the Asiago and the consequent time-out of Pustertal to better order ideas. Then the guests got dangerous with Marco Rosa on the counterattack but the score didn’t change. In the third time the home team started very well. Ivan Althuber on rebound made the 3:0. From this moment, the game was completely in the hands of the Wolves, who then found the poker with a shot from the distance of Armin Hofer. Worthy of note was the penalty match for Michele Marchetti after a boarding in which Max Oberrauch came out battered. Val Pusteria immediately returned to victory after the defeat at Collalbo. Colin Furlong earned the fifth shutout of the season.

The three Vinazter brothers were always absent in the Gherdeina which found the return of Damian Bergmaister. Then the home team took the lead after a powerplay and with a touch of luck by Benjamin Kostner after a shot by Derek Eastman. Then the Gherdeina exploited an excessive nervousness of the Austrians who took some penalties. The Furies performed a double powerplay with Michael Sullmann Pilser at the end of a good exchange between Lundstrom and Demetz. The first closed on 2:0 for Gherdeina with a Bregenzerwald a little subdued. In the second the home team was still the protagonist who scored the 3:0. Simon Pitschieler realized on rebound after a shot by Lundstrom. Then halfway through the game and after some penalties against Gherdeina, the ECB realized the first net in double powerplay and with a player of the hosts on the rink but with the broken stick. The Bregenzerwald feel good as they made the second goal with a deflection of Kai Fassler after a shot from the blue of Vonbun. The game was completely reopened but the ECB failed to equalize before the end of the second despite some other good opportunity. In the third time none of the teams proved to be precise in attack and goalkeepers did their job. The Gherdeina defended 3:2 up to 60 ' as they earned three other important points for his ranking.
