Both Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice did not have to make any personnel changes in the line-up, but both relied on adaptations in the composition of the lines. After the home team provided a lot of pressure especially in the first five minutes, the intensity decreased as the first period went on, with the game was characterized by many tactical decisions.

Right at the beginning of the second period, the 1200 spectators also got to see goals, as Jesenice took the lead only 31 seconds after the restart when Andraz Zibelnik scored after a rebound. About a minute later, the Italians equalized after a turnover by the visitors, as Luca Scaap lost the puck behind his own goal, Gabriele Parini pushed to the middle - and there Michele Stevan came alone to score. Asiago kept up the pressure. Giliati only hit the post and on all other good chances Jesenice goalkeeper Oscar Froberg was outstanding, as he kept his team in the game with strong saves.

Vallini injury as turning point
With about ten minutes left, Asiago keeper Gianluca Vallini, who had also been performing well up to that point, had to leave the game early due to a lower body injury that he sustained through no fault of his own while blocking a shot with his pads. He was replaced by Luca Stevan, who had to concede a goal by Jasa Jenko in the 55th minute. He pushed through with great speed against two opponents and slid past Stevan to take the lead. Asiago still had good chances to equalize towards the end, but finally had to concede two empty-netters.
