With a 3–2 victory after overtime against EC-KAC on Sunday, FTC-Telekom secured their first win in the win2ay ICE Hockey League against the Klagenfurt side. Captain Rasmus Bengtsson described it as a “huge win” after the match – and is now looking ahead to a challenging week with three matches.

For FTC-Telekom, the home win against KAC meant more than just two points. For the first time in the league’s history, Budapest managed to beat Klagenfurt – and, of all things, in a tight, intense clash that was only decided in overtime. “I think it was a good ice hockey match between two good teams,” said captain Rasmus Bengtsson after the game. “We got off to a good start, then they scored two goals and took control of the game a bit. But in the end, we fought back strongly and secured the extra point.”

The 33-year-old Swedish defender set up the goal that levelled the score at 2–2. For Bengtsson, who brings experience from the SHL and is now playing his second season in Budapest, the victory was also a sign of his team’s maturity.

The Swede was particularly impressed by the special teams. The match was marked by numerous penalties, yet FTC kept their nerve both on the power play and when shorthanded. “That’s been good all season,” explained Bengtsson. “It helps us win games. We just have to keep it up.”

Three matches this week
The victory also capped off a strong weekend, which began with a 4–3 win over Vorarlberg on Friday. “They were two very different games. We’ll take the points and look ahead.”

With 15 points from ten games, FTC-Telekom currently sit ninth in the table. Now a particularly busy week lies ahead: as early as Wednesday, the team travels to Villach (7.15 pm, live on Sporteurope.tv), followed by two more matches at the weekend (at home against Pustertal on Saturday, and in Linz on Sunday). For Bengtsson, it’s clear that this historic victory must be just the start: “We’ve got another important week ahead of us. We’re moving forward with a positive attitude.”
