Release from 01.12.2023
The 26th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League set a new scoring record in the 2023/24 season with 48 goals. 15 goals - the season record for a single game - were scored in the clash between Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and Steinbach Black Wings Linz, in which the northern Italians had the better end in the shootout. In a thrilling South Tyrol derby, HCB Südtirol Alperia managed to get revenge against HC Pustertal in overtime. The Moser Medical Graz99ers also celebrated their fourth win in a row. Meanwhile, EC Red Bull Salzburg extended its lead in the table.
A new season goal record was set in Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey's 8-7 shootout win against Steinbach Black Wings Linz. In addition, both teams have never been involved in a game with so many goals in the win2day ICE Hockey League. However, the all-time league record of 19 goals - in the game between VSV and Salzburg (8:11) on October 24, 2004 - could not be broken. Asiago got off to a strong start and quickly took a 3:0 lead, but Linz fought back until the beginning of the third period and even took the lead a few minutes before the end. Asiago shot themselves into overtime and then won the penalty shootout. Remarkable: All 14 goals in regulation time were scored in equal strenght.
Bolzano manages derby revenge
After HCB Südtirol Alperia lost the first derby of the season against HC Pustertal, they managed to get revenge in overtime. Pustertal was already leading 2:0 in its home game, but was still unable to prevent overtime. There, Brad McClure finally scored the game-winning goal in to give Bolzano its eleventh win in the past twelve games.
Graz extends series
The Moser Medical Graz99ers seem to have arrived in the season. While they were never able to win two games in a row - before their run - the team at the bottom of the table has now managed its fourth win in a row. They beat HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana 6:3 and thus caught up with the twelfth and eleventh-placed teams in the table. Anthony Salinitri scored a brace for Graz on Friday evening.
Victories for Fehérvár, Salzburg and Innsbruck
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 spoiled Marcel Rodman's head coaching debut for EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV. The Eagles took the lead twice on Friday evening in Hungary, but were ultimately beaten 3-2. This was the third defeat in a row for Villach, who remain in fifth place, and their sixth defeat in the last seven games.
EC Red Bull Salzburg were able to extend their lead in the table in the 26th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League after hard work as guests of the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg. The reigning champions took a quick 3:0 lead, but were suddenly confronted with the equalizer at the start of the third period. A strong finish finally secured the Red Bulls a commanding 6:3 victory.
HC TIWAG Innsbruck celebrated a commanding win as guests of the spusu Vienna Capitals. After an evenly matched first period, the Sharks were more ruthless and eventually won 4:1. With this success, the Innsbruck team reduced the gap to the top six to four points. Vienna, on the other hand, are in penultimate place in the table and are just one point ahead of Graz.
