After a hard-fought opening game, Graz clearly dominated the last two matches, winning each by a four-goal margin. On Sunday, the Styrians have the chance to secure their place in the final for the first time in Hungary, though they will have to do so without their injured first-choice goalkeeper, Max Lagacé. Nicolas Wieser will take his place between the posts. Fehérvár were just one defeat away from the end of the season in the pre-playoffs against Vienna, but subsequently turned the series around with two wins. To keep the best-of-seven series alive, the Hungarians need to significantly improve their attacking play – so far, they have scored just three goals in three games.

HC Falkensteiner Pustertal have also been marching through the play-offs in lockstep with the Graz side so far. The as-yet-undefeated South Tyroleans need just one more win to reach the final for the first time. The Wolves have won all three semi-final clashes against Ljubljana 3-0. One man has been central to this: goalkeeper Eddie Pasquale, who has gone an impressive 268 minutes and 9 seconds without conceding a goal. The Slovenians are looking to extend the series in front of their home crowd – in the quarter-finals, they won two of their three home games at the Tivoli.

For the first time in the league’s history, both ‘best-of-7’ semi-final series could end in a ‘sweep’. The shortest series to date were in 2009, 2015 and 2022, when the finalists were decided over a total of nine matches.
