Graz99ers stay on the road for their second game of their debut CHL season, coming to Cardiff after upsetting the reigning champions Frölunda with a 6-5 shootout win on their own ice on Friday night. It could have gotten ugly for the Austrian side after they fell 2-0 down just 62 seconds into the game, but they showed great resiliency to respond in the first period with goals coming from Dwight King and Sebastian Collberg to make it 2-2 after 20 minutes. Both sides traded chances through the remaining 40 minutes of play, securing a point for each side as the game headed to overtime. With nothing further in the extra session, it took an eight round shootout for Graz to emerge victorious, kicking off their CHL journey with a bang.

Caps try to bounce back
On Sunday spusu Vienna Capitals host Djurgården Stockholm. These two teams were on opposite ends of one-sided scores on Gameday 1, with the Swedes winning 6-2 in Tychy and the Capitals losing 6-1 at home to Adler Mannheim. In trying to match up, the Caps do have some players who have experience in Sweden although none of them with Djurgarden. One of them is goaltender Bernhard Starkbaum, who entered Friday’s game against Mannheim in relief of Ryan Zapolski. Another is Riley Holzapfel, one of the offensive leaders on this Vienna team.

Champions Hockey League, Game Day 2:
1.9., 17.00: Cardiff Devils (WAL) – Moser Medical Graz99ers
1.9., 19.30: spusu Vienna Capitals – Djurgarden Stockholm (SWE)
