Three days after their 4:1 loss to Mannheim in the first preseason game, the Graz99ers got their revenge. In Sportpark Kitzbühel, the reigning win2day ICE Hockey League champions made a flying start and led 3:0 after just 12 minutes, with Currie scoring twice and Lippitsch adding another. After the Germans pulled one back, Harnisch temporarily restored the three-goal lead. Although the DEL side came within one goal again, the 99ers held on for the win thanks to a strong team performance and an outstanding display by goaltender Nico Wieser.

Linz and Villach lose preseason openers
The Steinbach Black Wings Linz were beaten 5:2 by Red Bull München in their first preseason game, played at home in front of nearly 2,500 spectators. The DEL representatives scored the only goal of the opening period, before new signing Topping equalised in the second. Lindner then put the hosts 2:1 ahead early in the final period. München, however, turned the game around within a few minutes and eventually skated to a 5:2 victory.

Villach also faced its first intense test against Kassel. In Zell am See, the young VSV team showed plenty of effort and fighting spirit against the DEL2 side, but ultimately suffered a 7:4 defeat.
