After missing five players of the regular staff – Joakim Hillding, Kalle Johansson, Daniel Oberkofler, Julian Pauschenwein und Matt Garbowsky were out due to injuries – Graz’ head coach Doug Mason had to adapt his line-ups, placed Oliver Setzinger on the offensive end, but welcomed back Sebastian Collberg.

Mountfield pressed hard in the first period, carrying the play by a wide edge but Cristopher Nihlstorp was solid in net. They were only able to beat him once in the opening 20 minutes, with Jordann Perret taking advantage of a bounce off the end boards and scoring from a sharp angle. Graz came out stronger in the second period and in the 28th minute they tied it when Dwight King deflected Oliver Setzinger's slapper from the side boards. However, Mountfield regained the lead six minutes later and never looked back. Tomáš Vincour got things started, banging home a rebound to make it 2:1. The score was still close after two periods, but the floodgates opened in the third, with Mountfield pouring in five goals to secure a 7:1 victory.
