Harsh defeats for Znojmo and Villach

The HC Orli Znojmo and the EC Panaceo VSV had to take harsh defeats in today’s preseason games. While the Czech side lost on home ice to HC Vitkovice Ridera (CZE) 3:7, Villach got defeated by French Champions Hockey League participant Grenoble 0:8. It was “eagle’s” first preseason loss after three straight wins.

Eagles fell short at home
In their first home pre-season friendly, Orli Znojmo were beaten by Czech Extraliga side Vítkovice 7-3. Radim Matuš was the first to net for the home team midway through the first period, cancelling the early opener, but Vítkovice dominated the middle period, scoring five unanswered goals to get a decisive advantage. Znojmo pulled two back late in the game through Antonin Boruta and David Bartos, but could not do more than that.

First preseason loss for VSV
After three straight wins, the EC Panaceo VSV were beaten for the first time this preseason, as the “eagles” lost to French CHL side Grenoble 0:8. Netminder Lukas Schluderbacher replaced Brandon Maxwell and was overcome after three minutes for the first time. The French champion went for the preliminary decision with four unanswered goals in the middle frame. Villach continues at the tournament in Bled tomorrow, facing league rival Hydro Fehervar AV19.
