HC Pustertal advances to semifinals for first time ever

The HC Pustertal Wölfe have qualified for the semifinals for the first time in their third year in the win2day ICE Hockey League, as the South Tyroleans prevailed 4-1 in the decisive game seven quarterfinal duel at Hydro Fehérvár AV19 on Saturday evening and clinched the fourth win needed to advance in this series.

HC Pustertal will now face EC-KAC in the semifinals. The second pairing is EC Red Bull Salzburg against HCB Südtirol Alperia. Both "best-of-7" series will open on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024. The clash between the "Rotjacken" and the "Wölfe" will be shown live on PULS24 and in the JOYN app from 7.05 pm. The final rematch between Salzburg and Bolzano will be available on www.live.ice.hockey (PPV).

The HC Pustertal Wölfe completed the semifinals of the win2day ICE Hockey League: The South Tyroleans won 4-1 at Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and decided the "best-of-7" quarterfinal series 4-3 in their favor. For the first time since the playoff picks were introduced in the 2012-13 season, the runners-up after the regular season were eliminated in the first round of the postseason. The Wolves celebrated their first ever playoff win on the road in Székesfehérvár, after they had been beaten in their previous six road games.

The game began with a lot of pressure from the Hungarians, which had Guillaume Leclerc back in the line-up in the absence of Pascal Laberge. Despite some good opportunities, Fehérvár failed to score against Pustertal goalie Jacob Smith. Contrary to the course of the game, HC Pustertal scored: David Morley (18./PP1) skillfully deflected a shot in the power play to give the visitors a surprising lead. Shortly after the first break, the home team also scored with numerical superiority through Daniel Leavens (21./PP1) – but no momentum was gained. On the contrary: The "Wölfe" got more and more access to the game and also scored the goals. Zach Sill (31./PP1) with a minimal deflection after a shot by Jason Akeson and he then made it 3-1 with a after a beautiful solo effort in the 35th minute. The resistance of the Hungarians was broken, Pustertal added through Christian Kasastul (51.) and won deservedly in the end.
