HCB knocks KAC off the top – VSV shines in home opener

HCB Südtirol Alperia is the new leader of the win2day ICE Hockey League. The Foxes won the head-to-head battle with EC-KAC 4-0 and moved past Klagenfurt while having played one game fewer. EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV delivered an impressive performance in its home opener, cruising to a 7-2 win over high-flying HC Milano. Vienna Capitals, FTC-Telekom Budapest, Steinbach Black Wings Linz, EC Red Bull Salzburg and HC Falkensteiner Pustertal also picked up wins.

HCB takes over first place with shutout win over KAC
HCB Südtirol Alperia won the battle for the top spot against EC-KAC 4-0 and replaced Klagenfurt at the top of the standings. After a scoreless opening period, the Foxes struck three times in the second. Daniel Mantenuto broke the deadlock before Teemu Kivihalme and Matt Bradley extended the lead to 3-0. Brad McClure added a power-play goal early in the third to seal the win. HCB now sits atop the standings with one game in hand on both KAC and Milano.
EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV also made a statement in its home opener. After a scoreless first period, the Eagles took control and cruised to a 7-2 victory over HC Milano. Paolo Wieltschnig, Ryan Sproul and Elias Wallenta gave VSV a 3-1 lead in the middle frame before the hosts added four more goals in the third. Maximilian Rebernig scored twice as Milano suffered only its second loss of the season.
Capitals earn first shutout – Linz takes down the champions
Vienna Capitals picked up an important 4-0 home win over HC TIWAG Innsbruck and moved up to seventh place in the standings. Jeremy Gregoire and Jakob Lilja both scored twice, with Lilja also assisting on Gregoire's second goal for a three-point night. It was also the Capitals' first shutout of the season.
Steinbach Black Wings Linz edged defending champion Moser Medical Graz99ers in a tightly contested game. Linz held a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes thanks to goals from Niklas Würschl and Trenton Bliss, but Nick Swaney tied the game with just 33 seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, Trenton Bliss and Graham Knott converted in the shootout to secure a 3-2 win. The Black Wings remain within striking distance of the league leaders in fifth place.
Four-point Savoie leads Budapest to derby win
FTC-Telekom Budapest claimed a convincing 5-2 road win over Hydro Fehérvár AV19 in the Hungarian derby. Carter Savoie led the way with two goals and two assists for a four-point night. David Silye also scored twice, while Zétény Hadobás added the fifth goal. Budapest led 2-1 after the opening period and steadily pulled away from there.
EC Red Bull Salzburg earned an important 4-1 road win over Pioneers Vorarlberg. Nicholas Poisson opened the scoring in the first period before Peter Schneider doubled the lead in the second. After Ben Summer pulled the Pioneers within one, Mathias Böhm and Schneider, with his second of the night, put the game away for Salzburg.
Pustertal beats Ljubljana
HC Falkensteiner Pustertal also collected three important points with a 4-2 home win over Olimpija Ljubljana. After an even opening period, Gunnar Fontaine and Greg DiTomaso gave the Wolves a 3-2 lead in the second. Austin Osmanski added the insurance goal in the third to secure the victory.
