HCB Südtirol Alperia celebrated its second win of the season and captured the top position in standings. The Dornbirn Bulldogs and Moser Medical Graz 99ers came back after a two goal deficit.
Reigning champion HCB Südtirol Alperia won its second game of the season as well and remains unbeaten. The “foxes” succeeded a 2:1-victory against EC Red Bull Salzburg in the new edition of last years final. After two losses Salzburg is still looking for the first points of the season. Matt MacKenzie took the lead for the guests after five minutes played. While Ryan Duncan balanced the game within the first frame, Mike Blunden restored Bozens lead later. Further, the champ showed excellent defense skills and did not allow Salzburg, who could not use seven power play situations, to come back.
The Dornbirn Bulldogs have posted a great finish to gain a 3:2 turnaround win against EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz. They celebrated the second win of the season, while the upper Austrians sufferd their first defeat in regular time. After a goalless but varied opening frame former Bulldogs player Jonathan D’Aversa scored the first goal of the evening for the guests. Stefan Gaffal potted a second for Linz in not less than four minutes later. In the last ten minutes Dornbirn caught up brilliantly: First Stefan Häußle scored the first goal for the hosts. Then Michael Parks made the equalizer and Brodie Reid the game winner for Dornbirn with 3,6 seconds to go.
Also the Moser Medical Graz 99ers showed a great comeback playing at HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie”. A 6:3 win on the road gave the Styrians the first win of the season, while Innsbruck suffered its second defeat at home. After trailing 1:3 in the second, the 99ers turned the game in the last five minutes of the middle frame. Curtis Hamilton, Ty Loney and Matthew Caito, who scored almost at the buzzer, took the lead again for Graz. The 99ers potted two more in the last for their first win on the road.
The Vienna Capitals created a solid 4:2 home win against Féhérvar AV19. The Capitals gained the second victory of the season and captured the second place in the standings. Féhérvar is on seventh position after two games. After problems with broken glass, the game started about 20 minutes later. The Capitals came out strong, but Féhérvar goalie Mac Carruth kept his sheet clean in the first twelve minutes. Soon later Benjamin Nissner potted the first for the hosts. The Hungarians increased their speed instantly and Arttu Luttinen succeeded the equalizer early in the second. Tylor Vause restored the lead for the Caps later in the second and Andreas Nödl increased the lead at the beginning of the third in a shorthanded situation. While Bence Stipsicz made one more for the guests, Riley Holzapfel rounded off the score.
The EC Panaceo VSV has reached the fourth place in standings after achieving the second win of the season. The Carinthians defeated KHL Medvescak Zagreb 3:2 after overtime. Mario Puskarich gave the hosts an early lead. Later, both teams could not use a double shorthanded situation for a goal. Than Jerry Pollastrone tied the game for Villach one and a half minute before the first break. Ten seconds to go in the second again Pollastrone scored for the “eagles”. Because of a deflected shot Bjorn Svensson made the equalizer for Zagreb and secured the “bears” first point of the season. In the extra time Villachs Brandon Alderson in cooperation with Markus Schlacher decided the game.
