Highlanders manage AWHL revenge against Lakers

In the win2day Austrian Women's Hockey League, the KSV Highlanders celebrated a 3:1 home win over the Lakers Kärnten on Saturday. The Styrians thus improved to second place in the Placement Round.

In Saturday's lone European Women's Hockey League game, MAC Budapest claimed a clear 8:1 derby victory at Budapest Jegkorong Akademia.

The Highlanders wanted revenge for their defeat just a month ago and were the dominant team right from the start. Vanessa Picka put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute. Klagenfurt equalised through Carolyn Whitney in the middle period, but the KSV women went ahead again shortly afterwards - Marielle Dijkema scored to make it 2:1. Sara Confidenti added another goal in the third for the 3:1 final result. The Styrians thus improved to second place. In the last game of the Placement Round, the Highlanders even have a chance to take first place when they play the Sabres St. Pölten on Sunday.

In the European Women's Hockey League, MAC Budapest celebrated a clear derby victory at Budapest Jegkorong Akademia. With three goals within three minutes, the visitors set the course for victory in the first period. Although the Akademia team was able to reduce the deficit before the first period break, MAC pulled away to a 5:1 lead in the middle period. In the end, they celebrated an 8:1 victory in which Olivia Atkinson scored a hat-trick. MAC improved to fourth place in the table.
