Highlanders win thrilling AWHL clash in Salzburg

The DEC Salzburg Eagles and KSV Highlanders played out an open exchange of blows on Saturday in which the lead changed several times. In the end, the Styrians prevailed 7:4 away from home and extended their lead in the win2day Austrian Women's Hockey League.

In the European Women's Hockey League, the EC Graz Huskies celebrated their first shutout of the season. They won 4:0 at Budapest Jegkorong Akademia and overtook the Hungarians in the table. Leaders Aisulu Almaty, on the other hand, defeated Lakers Kärnten 4:1.

In a thrilling first period between the Eagles and Highlanders, the visitors went ahead twice. The Salzburg team equalised on both occasions and Meagan Byrum then even made it 3:2, but this time KSV equalised to make it 3:3, which was the score going into the first break. Byrum scored a hat-trick after the restart, but the Highlanders turned the game in their favour in the middle period. Nikola Rumanova made it 4:5 34 seconds before the second period break and the AWHL leaders extended their lead in the third period, with Sara Confidenti scoring the final goal to make it 4:7.

The EC Graz Huskies celebrated their first shutout of the season in the European Women's Hockey League. After a goalless first period, Simona Grascher put the Styrians ahead at Budapest Jegkorong Akademia. A hat-trick from Tamara Grascher ensured a clear result and an away win for the Huskies, who moved up to eighth place in the EWHL table.

Aisulu Almaty extended their lead in the EWHL standings with a 4:1 win over Lakers Kärnten. Cassidy Maplethorpe put the hosts ahead in the first period and Almaty pulled away to 4:0 by the 49th minute. The Lakers only managed to score an honourable goal through Kelsey Soccio.
