Highlanders win top clash against Sabres in overtime

The KSV Highlanders handed Sabres St. Pölten their first loss in the Placement Round of the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League on Sunday. Despite the 2–1 overtime defeat, the Lower Austrians still finished this stage on top of the standings. In the Qualification Round, the DEC Salzburg Eagles celebrated a shutout victory over the Graz99ers Huskies.

Just two days after their win against the VSV Lady Hawks, the Highlanders had reason to celebrate again. The Styrian side prevailed in St. Pölten in overtime. After a scoreless first period, Lena Dauböck put the visitors ahead, but Ashley Taciuk equalized for the Sabres just before the second intermission. With the score tied 1–1, the game went into extra time, where Selina Gentilini sealed the win on the power play in the 62nd minute. Despite the loss, the Sabres finished the Placement Round as the top-ranked team.

In the Qualification Round, Salzburg and Graz met for their final game of the AWHL season. Both teams missed out on the Final Four, but the Eagles wrapped up their campaign with a 3–0 victory. Goaltender Kristiana Apsite earned a shutout, helping the hosts overtake the Huskies to finish the round in second place.

In the European Women’s Hockey League, HK PSRZ Bratislava recorded their second lopsided win over Tauron Metropolia Silesia within 24 hours, this time by a 9–2 margin. The EVB Eagles South Tyrol also completed their Hungarian road trip successfully, defeating MAC Budapest 5–1. After their loss the previous day, Aisulu Almaty bounced back with a 3–1 victory over Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia.
