Release from 30.12.2020
On the last game day of the year, all six home teams prevailed in the Alps Hockey League. EHC Lustenau celebrated a derby win against EC Bregenzerwald by ending ECB's winning streak. Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey's winning streak also came to an end against AHL leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana, who thus gained revenge. HC Pustertal, which is tied on points, is advancing in step with the Slovenians.
Ljubljana takes revenge against Asiago
The league leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana could take revenge for the 2:5 defeat a few days ago in the last match of the year. Asiago had to admit defeat for the first time in the Home & Away Round after seven wins in a row. Asiago still managed to take the lead in the first period. From the second period on, however, the Slovenians could not be stopped by the Yellow-Red. Four different Ljubljana cracks signed in the scorers list and made the result of 4:1. With this success, the Dragons remain equal on points with Pustertal at the top.
Feldkirch celebrated second narrow success over Kitzbühel
VEU Feldkirch celebrated a narrow victory over EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel for the second time in two days. Thus, Feldkirch can continue to move up in the standings. With only ten games played in the Home & Away Round, Feldkirch is in fifth place, tied on points with fourth-placed Lustenau. After a goalless starting third against Kitzbühel, the hosts took the lead. Kitzbühel was still able to equalize before Jordan Pfennich provided the decisive 2:1. The Eagles thus remain without points against VEU this season.
Fassa defeats Cortina again
Just on Dec. 26, SHC Fassa Falcons celebrated a narrow 2-1 victory over S.G. Cortina Hafro. Just four days later they were able to confirm the success, albeit only in overtime. Cortina still scored the early lead, but the Falcons hit back with a double strike and restored the result of the first leg already in the first period. Cortina showed comeback qualities several times this evening and fought its way into overtime. There, Joseph Mizzi provided the decisive 6:5 with his second goal. With the second win in a row, the Falcons were able to overtake S.G. Cortina Hafro in the standings.
Lustenau ends winning streak of Bregenzerwald
EHC Lustenau ended the winning streak of EC Bregenzerwald. Seven wins in a row were recorded by the Wälder last time. In the second derby against EHC Lustenau in the last eleven days, Bregenzerwald had to admit defeat for the first time in December in the last game of the year. Meanwhile, EHC Lustenau celebrated the second win in a row and leaves the Wälder behind in the standings again. Chris D'Alvise laced a brace on this evening. Maximilian Wilfan, who scored four times against Kitzbühel last time out, also added to the tally this evening - as did new acquisition Arturs Ozoline - in the 5:1 win.
Rittner Buam prevail again against Gherdeina
The HC Gherdeina presented shortly before the meeting still with Ryan Harrison a reinforcement for the offense. The 28-year-old Canadian occupied the last legionary spot for the Furie. However, the Rittner Buam prevailed in commanding fashion, just as they did in early December. Already in the first period, the Buam earned a 3:0 lead. The hosts eventually prevailed 4:1. After three defeats in the past four matches, Ritten was able to end the year with a sense of achievement and climb to tenth place in the table.
Pustertal in step with Ljubljana ahead
HC Pustertal lived up to its role as favorite in the match against Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and won sovereignly with 4:1. The Wolves thus increase their lead over the chasing group, in step with HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana. Pustertal took a 3:0 lead already in the first period and thus laid the foundation for an unchallenged success. The Wolves thus spend the turn of the year in second place.
