The break in the win2day ICE Hockey League ends on Saturday with the matchup between FTC-Telekom and EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV. Less than 24 hours later, the Villach side will visit Hydro Fehérvár AV19. These two games are extremely important for all three teams in the race for a Top-10 finish. Currently, ninth-placed Villach hold a one-point lead over tenth-placed Fehérvár and a five-point advantage over eleventh-placed Budapest. In addition, the Moser Medical Graz99ers will also be in action in Hungary on Sunday. The Styrians face FTC-Telekom, who will therefore play two games within 24 hours alongside VSV. With a full three-point win, the 99ers could cut the gap to league leaders EC-KAC to just one point.

On Saturday, VSV visit FTC-Telekom and could take a major step toward securing a Pre-Playoffs spot with a victory. The ninth-placed team currently holds a five-point cushion over eleventh-placed Budapest, with both teams having played the same number of games. Before the Olympic break, VSV celebrated an impressive 8–5 home win over Ljubljana, but away from home the Villach club managed only one victory in their last ten games. Budapest claimed the Hungarian Cup title before the break. In the final, they defeated Fehérvár 4–2 in an all-league matchup. In league play, however, they have won just one of their last six games. In the most recent head-to-head meeting with Villach, FTC prevailed 5–4 at home. Prior to that, they narrowly lost 5–4 in Villach, while the first season clash in Budapest ended 4–2 in favor of the Eagles.

Less than 24 hours later, Villach will face Hydro Fehérvár AV19, who currently occupy tenth place and the final Pre-Playoff position. Fehérvár’s recent form has been disappointing: in addition to their 2–4 defeat in the Hungarian Cup final against Budapest, they have gone seven consecutive league games without a win. Their last victory dates back to January 9. Against Villach, Fehérvár have recorded one win this season, in the first meeting between the teams. The other two encounters ended 4–1 and 3–2 (OT) in favor of the Eagles.

Graz visit Budapest on Sunday
Alongside Villach, the Moser Medical Graz99ers will also be in action in Hungary this weekend. On Sunday, the second-placed team travels to FTC-Telekom. With a regulation-time win, the 99ers could close to within one point of league leaders EC-KAC, with both teams then having played the same number of games. Before the break, the Styrians recorded three consecutive victories. Against Budapest, they suffered a 2–3 overtime home defeat in the first meeting of the season, followed by a 4–3 overtime road win and a dominant 6–1 home victory in their most recent clash in early January.
