Fryčer had a successful hockey career as a player and a coach too: he was one of the best Czechoslovak players of his generation, participated with the national team in two World Championships and the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid.

From Vitkovice, he conquered the NHL in 1981, where he first played for one season at the Quebec Nordiques and then acted mainly for the Toronto Maple Leafes. In 1985, he became the first Czech player to participate in an NHL All-Star Game. He recorded 341 points in the best league of the world.

In 1989 he returned to Europe, where he ended his career in Germany. He then took over coaching duties mainly in Italy. Since February 2018, Fryčer was part of HC Aqotec Orli Znojmo, which he led as head coach and sports director until his passing.
