The win2day ICE Hockey League takes a break this week, but hockey fans can still look forward to top-level international action: from Thursday to Sunday, the newly established European Cup of Nations will deliver high-class national team hockey across Europe. The Austrian National Team will play its first games at the prestigious Deutschland Cup in Landshut, while the other three ICE nations will be in action in Poland and France. The win2day ICE Hockey League is strongly represented in the competition: a total of 59 nominated players are part of the four participating national teams — the largest contingent comes from the Austrian selection, featuring 21 ICE players.

The European Cup of Nations was created to turn international breaks into a platform for meaningful and competitive national team games. The tournament is one of the key initiatives under the IIHF’s ICE26 strategic plan. The inaugural season takes place during the traditional international breaks in November, December, and February, featuring 18 national teams competing in three- or four-team groups across Europe.

Austria competes at the Germany Cup in Landshut
Austria will play in Group A as part of the Germany Cup in Landshut this November. Last season, the Austrian National Team finished the tournament in third place. For this year’s edition, 21 of the 26 players on Austria’s roster come from the win2day ICE Hockey League. The team’s opponents in the prestigious tournament are host Germany, Slovakia, and Latvia – all ranked among the top 10 nations in the IIHF World Ranking and qualified for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano-Cortina.

Italy and Slovenia in action in Poland
Olympic host nation Italy and Slovenia will play their games in Sosnowiec, Poland. For Italy, the tournament serves as another important test on the road to the Olympic Winter Games in Milano-Cortina. A total of 17 players from the win2day ICE Hockey League are part of the Azzurri roster, while Slovenia has 10 ICE players on its team. In addition to host Poland, Great Britain also competes in this group.

Hungary faces strong competition in France
Hungary also faces strong opponents this week as part of the European Cup of Nations. In Épinal, the Hungarian national team will take on host France, Denmark, and Norway. A total of 11 players from the two Hungarian ICE clubs – Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and FTC-Telekom – have been named to the national team roster.
