The iClinic Bratislava Capitals informed the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League last week that they have to stop playing for the 2021/22 season after the tragic incidents. The withdrawal of the iClinic Bratislava Capitals from the current competition is accepted with understanding but great regret. As a withdrawal during an ongoing season is not considered in the regulations, the decision on the further procedure had to be made by the special commission described in the basic rules of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League.

The special commission of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League - consisting of League President KR Mag. Jochen Pildner-Steinburg, the Chairman of the ICE Sports Board Vice President Dr. Karl Safron as well as two members of the ICE Legal Commission - decided to change the scoring of the regular season to the point average system, which has established in the DEL, for example. This approach is the fairest solution for all teams after extensive consultation.

The previous games of the iClinic Bratislava Capitals will remain in the standings and the table of the regular seaon will be determined according to the point average from now on. Thus, on the one hand, the previous results against Bratislava can be kept in the standings and, on the other hand, the upcoming games can be taken out of the schedule without penalty verifications. As of now, the iClinic Bratislava Capitals will no longer be listed in the standings.

President: KR Mag. Jochen Pildner-Steinburg, President of bet-at-home ICE Hockey League: "After long and detailed discussions, the special commission fortunately came to a unanimous decision. The decided procedure does not take away any points from the teams, which were won in an honest sporting competition. From the commission's point of view, this is the fairest solution for all players and teams, even if it is not the easiest. At the same time, the point average system gives us the opportunity to react flexibly and at short notice to any match cancellations due to the pandemic."

An overview of the point average system:
As before, a win in the regular season will be awarded three points for the winner, and a drawn game will be awarded one point for both teams. The winner in overtime or in the penalty shootout will receive an additional point.

The ranking in the regular season is now based on the point average (quotient of points earned and number of games scored - rounded to three decimal places) instead of absolute values as before. The final ranking after the end of the regular season will be calculated as before according to the Gamebook Fundamental Rules Part II League Play § 5.

Teams must have played at least 80% of the scheduled / planned games in order to enter the playoffs or pre-playoffs. This also allows for a more flexible response to the current COVID-19 pandemic in extreme emergencies in conjunction with the remaining league schedule.

The basic rules / implementing regulations and supplements (Covid-19 Appendix...) previously applicable to the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League will continue to apply in full. Should additions and/or changes be necessary due to the present decision, these will be considered meritoriously.

The withdrawal of the iClinic Bratislava Capitals has no effect on the official statistics of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. The stat points earned from the encounters with the Slovakian club will remain in the club/player stats.
