The Alps Hockey League turns 10 this year. How has the level of play evolved since its early days?
Žiga Urukalo: “Over the past seasons, all teams have become quite equal. Every game is tough. So yeah, I think there aren’t big differences between the teams anymore, like there were at the beginning.”

Which players have had the biggest impact on the league over the past nine seasons?
Žiga Urukalo: “Of course Ethan Szypula from Ritten. Last year, he reached the milestone of scoring more than 100 points in a single season.”

How has the Alps Hockey League shaped Slovenian hockey, especially in developing young players?
Žiga Urukalo: “I think it’s great because you play at an international level. And like you said, it’s very good for young players who are just starting in senior hockey.”

Which rivalries make the league special? And what are your season highlights?
Žiga Urukalo: “I think especially the series against Zell am See last year was tough. We really enjoyed playing there because the arena is always full of fans. It’s just nice to play there.”

With what expectations are you heading into the anniversary season?
Žiga Urukalo: “Yeah, it’s still early days, but we’re aiming for the playoffs and to win the cup again.

Who will be the anniversary champion? And which underdog might surprise?
Žiga Urukalo: “It’s tough to say for the underdog, but I think Zell am See is the main favorite again. And Jesenice too.”
