Innsbruck took an early lead against VSV on Sunday, but had to chase the game in the final period after falling behind 1–2. Steven Owre rescued the Tyroleans with an equalizer shortly before the end, sending the game to overtime, where Connor Mayer secured the home win. “We gave everything and played very well. We were chasing the game for a long time, but we managed to equalize and then also took the second point,” Witting said after the game.

The captain also highlighted the team’s morale. Innsbruck has already come back in games several times this season, and he is pleased with the team’s development: “Last season wasn’t much fun. Things are different now — it’s enjoyable again. I believe we are on the way to building a new identity.”

Attention now turns to Friday, when the Sharks travel to face HC Falkensteiner Pustertal, currently in sixth place. Innsbruck trails the South Tyroleans by just one point. Witting expects a closely contested game: “There are no easy opponents in this league anyway. If we play our game, we have another chance — and that is our goal.”
