Decision of the ICE Disciplinary Committee – Patrick Kudla (in detail)

Inappropriate gesture – Patrick Kudla Game #268 | VIC vs. HCI

Patrick Kudla (HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie, jersey number 27) is sanctioned for damaging the integrity of the sport in connection with Game No. 268 of the win2day ICE Hockey League on January 30, 2026, in accordance with the ICE Hockey League Game Book – Part I | Disciplinary Measures – Chapter IV Substantive Law – §2 Disciplinary Measures and Guidelines – Para. (1) Damage to sporting integrity.

A fine of EUR 2,400 is imposed, of which EUR 1,200 is suspended with a probationary period of 24 months. In addition, due to insulting or threatening opposing players or the public pursuant to the win2day ICE Hockey League penalty catalogue (Ref. No. 33), Patrick Kudla is suspended for four mandatory games.

Reasoning:
The video footage of the relevant game sequence from January 30, 2026 leaves no doubt about the gesture made by Patrick Kudla. His conduct constitutes a clear violation of the Code of Ethics and the Disciplinary Regulations of the win2day ICE Hockey League.

Through this gesture, the player fulfilled both the offense of damaging sporting integrity and the offense of insulting or threatening opposing players or the public under Part I | Disciplinary Measures. The applicable penalty range under the ICE Game Book provides for a fine between EUR 500 and EUR 25,000 and/or a suspension ranging from one game up to a lifetime ban.
The integrity of a league organization represents the highest protected value of any sports organization, particularly within the win2day ICE Hockey League. Under the league’s Code of Ethics, all affiliated parties are required to conduct themselves in all competitive, economic, social (including social media), and moral matters in accordance with the principles of dignity, integrity, loyalty, and responsibility.

The win2day ICE Hockey League explicitly reaffirms that disrespectful behavior and inappropriate gestures are not tolerated in any form and must be sanctioned consistently in order to uphold the league’s high standards of professionalism, respect, and fair play.

Aggravating circumstances: none
Mitigating circumstances: The incident occurred after the game, off the ice surface, and was therefore not visible to a broad audience via the video stream. Furthermore, the gesture did not incite or provoke fans to throw objects onto the ice and therefore posed no security risk.
Additional note: 50% of the imposed fine (EUR 1,200) is suspended subject to a probationary period of 24 months.

Should similar actions or statements occur within the next 24 months, the suspended portion of the fine will be enforced. In accordance with the win2day ICE Hockey League’s “Repeat Offender Regulation,” any further penalties will be increased by 50%, including the currently suspended amount.
