The hosts came out hard and generated a lot but it took 17 minutes until Nick Ross opened the scoring. After Mario Huber tied the game with a shorthanded marker, John Lammers restoed Innsbruck's lead even before the first intermission. Early in the second it was again Huber who found the back of the net. Soon later the guests failed to score on a double power play and had to pay the bill when Philipp Lindner even lit the lamp while being one man down. At the halfway point of the game Nick Ross doubled the score but joy was short-lived as Salzburg tied the game within two minutes thanks to goals by John Hughes and Brent Regner. In the third Alex Lavoie restored the sharks' lead but a late Brant Harris goal sent the game to overtime. In the extra session it was Andrew Yogan, who found the back of the net for Innsbruck's first season win.
