The omens before the Christmas game could not be more different: While the tenth-placed Czechs took the maximum points from their last three games and thus kept their advantage on a non-pre-play-off place, the Tyroleans had to accept three defeats in a row beforehand. But the HCI put on a near-perfect away game on Thursday. Already in the eighth minute Zach Magwood scored with a shot into the far corner to take the lead. Shortly afterwards Joel Messner (10./PP) increased the lead on power play. Although Znojmo had a slight advantage in the first period with 9:6 shots, the third goal was scored by the visitors again: Daniel Leavens, who already scored in the first two duels of the season with the Czech Eagles, increased the lead to 0:3 after 19 minutes. In the middle period Leavens scored a brace on the powerplay, shortly before the end of the period the home side got on the scoreboard through Tor Immo. But Innsbruck didn't let anything happen on this afternoon. In the 43rd minute Magwood found the net again to restore the four-goal lead. Although the Czechs came back with a Prokes goal, Timothy McGauley finished off the scoring with an empty netter to make it 2:6. The Innsbruck side, currently the second-best away team in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League, won their third game of the season against Znojmo and climbed to fifth place in the table.
