After both host Hungary and Italy won their opening games in the Tamás Sárközy Memorial Tournament on Thursday, the two ICE nations faced off on Friday evening – the penultimate day of the tournament – in a battle for the title in Budapest. Slovenia had previously managed to earn at least one point. A pair of goals by HC Pustertal player Tommy Purdeller in the second period set Squadra Azzurra on the path to victory. An empty-net goal by Asiago’s Nick Saracino ultimately sealed the tournament win.

On Saturday, the final day of the 4-nation tournament, the ICE nations Hungary and Slovenia will compete for a possible second place. Italy will finish the tournament with a game against Poland.
